What you need to know when traveling abroad

Share

Preparing for a trip or business travel Before your departure, consult a doctor at your local clinic to: receive medical recommendations for your stay abroad; get the necessary preventive vaccinations. Take with you the medications that you take regularly and those that you might need for various ailments.

Vaccination recommendations: It is necessary to check in advance with your travel agency or embassy regarding the vaccination requirements for travelers in a specific country. When traveling to countries with a high risk of yellow fever (countries in Africa and South America), you must get a preventive vaccination and obtain an international certificate of vaccination against yellow fever at a healthcare facility. For travel to countries in Africa and Southeast Asia, vaccinations against hepatitis A and B are advisable. When traveling to countries with a high risk of malaria, you need to get recommendations from your doctor regarding preventive antimalarial drugs and how to use them.

Tips during your trip: Follow basic personal hygiene rules. Wash your hands as often as possible (always before eating and preparing food, after using the restroom, or visiting public places), and use hand sanitizer and hygienic wipes. Drink only bottled water produced industrially or boiled water. Consume only food you are confident in. Avoid random catering establishments or street food stalls; never try or purchase food from street vendors at markets or from random sellers. Consume fish and other seafood only after they have been thoroughly heat-treated. Wash fruits thoroughly with safe water (boiled or bottled) before eating, and it is advisable to peel them before consumption. Follow hygiene rules when preparing food. Observe the storage conditions and shelf life of perishable products. Do not consume products with an expired shelf life. Do not walk barefoot to avoid infection from larvae.
